Safety regulations for WILESCO Steam Engines
The Safety Regulations which apply to Steam models are DIN 31000:1979-03. For Electically heated Steam Engines the safety regulations are DIN EN 60335-1:2001 and DIN EN 60335-2-15:2001 (appendix).

Wilesco Steam Engines fully comply with all DIN regulations. In addition to this, further quality control tests are carried out during production. For this reason the WILESCO Steam Engines are allowed to use a quality code "GS-TÜV" which is a safety distinction given by the German safety authority. As shown in the photograph, every single boiler used in the production of WILESCO Steam Engines is tested for consistency and safe working, at a pressure of 83 p.s.i. (approx. 500 kN/m²)
1. There must be no sharp corners or edges.
2. Metal surfaces must be protected from corrosion.
3. All operating levers must be coated to give protection from heat.
4. Steam engines must be heated by solid fuel, preferably ESBIT or,
alternatively, electricity.
5. The boiler capacity must not exceed 2 liters and when working must
not exceed 25 p.s.i. (approx. 150 kN/m²).
6. The boiler shall be provided with a safety valve, made of heat
resistant material, which will operate at a pressure lower than 50
p.s.i. (approx. 300 kN/m² - twice service pressure).
7. The bursting pressure of the boiler shall be at least 75 p.s.i.
(approx. 450 kN/m²- three times the service pressure).
8. The boiler must be fitted with a visible water level gauge.
9. The model must bear the maker's label and full operating instructions
must be supplied.
